Worshipping Christ Through Our

Creative Expression

“He has made everything beautiful in its time…” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

Medina Christian Academy believes in giving students the opportunity to express themselves creatively through a variety of arts and media—from worship band and theatre to the visual arts. The arts are an essential component of a private Christian high school curriculum. Many of our students use their God-given talents and creativity to bring glory to Christ through their work. We have designed our faith-based visual arts program to allow students to build on their drawing and painting skills, expand their familiarity with different mediums and techniques, and, if they choose, pursue independent art studies.

Laying the Foundation for Study in the Arts

Art I and Art II

High school students in grades 9 through 12 can participate in Art I, an introductory arts course focused on basic drawing skills. Students in grades 10 through 12 can then go on to take Art II, which builds on the techniques learned in Art I. In particular, Art II emphasizes both drawing and painting. Both courses challenge students to grow creatively and advance their artistic abilities.

Preparing for University or Art School Admission

Advanced Art

Students in grades 11 and 12 can enroll in the Advanced Art program. While skills from Art I and Art II are utilized, a large component of this program is an independent study. Instructors provide students with an opportunity to propose an area of study that excites them and allows them to pursue their own unique creative interests. This course is designed to build an art portfolio for entrance into an art school or a university arts program. As we help students prepare for this next step, we also give them insight into the many career opportunities that exist in the visual arts. We come together as a school community each spring for a fine arts expo that showcases our students’ artwork and accomplishments.
